What are Crop Circles ..?
Crop circles, characterized by their intricate designs, emerge overnight in agricultural fields, showcasing a variety of shapes including circles, rings, and more complex forms. These patterns, created by flattening plants, have captivated public interest and scholarly attention for the last few decades, igniting widespread speculation and scientific research. Often linked to paranormal phenomena, UFO sightings, and other strange activities, the phenomenon of crop circles remains a fascinating topic within both scientific inquiry and popular culture.
The Mowing Devil
While crop circles gained popularity in the 1970s they have been known about for centuries. Historical records, such as those mentioned by John Aubrey in his “Natural History,” dating back to 1633, recount tales of fairies and elves crafting “green circles” in fields, presaging modern interpretations of crop circles. Moreover, a 1678 account from Hertfordshire, England, describes a “fiery devil” creating circular formations in a field of oats, an event depicted in a contemporary woodcut showing a horned figure, dubbed the “mowing devil,” cutting oats with a scythe. This image arose from a story of a farmer who preferred the Devil’s labor to paying a steep wage, only to find his fields mysteriously mowed in circular patterns after a luminous night.
Despite the skepticism often cast on these accounts as mere fiction or misinterpretations by a medieval perspective, they serve as early indicators of the complex allure surrounding crop circles.
Is it all a Hoax.. ?
The crop circle mystery was largely put to “rest” in the when Doug Bower and Dave Chorley, two friends from Southampton, England, admitted to creating crop circles as a prank in 1991. The duo revealed that they had been crafting crop circles since 1978, using simple tools such as ropes, planks, and a pole-mounted sighting device to create the elaborate designs. Their method involved using the ropes to guide them in a straight line, while the planks, which were pushed into the crops, helped them create neat circles. The pole-mounted sighting device allowed them to align the edges of the circles, ensuring a precise and symmetrical design.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Bower and Chorley’s crop circle creation process was their use of a pole vault to exit the field without leaving behind telltale footprints. After completing a crop circle, the pair would use the pole vault to jump out of the field, landing outside the formation and thus avoiding leaving any tracks that might give away their involvement.

Many people weren’t buying their story. Not only that, but why were the two men not prosecuted by farmers to destroying their crops?
The Scientific Research
Biophysicist William C. Levengood’s comprehensive study of plants collected from crop circles across various countries has yielded fascinating insights into their cellular transformations. Conducted at Pinelandia Laboratories in Michigan, his research uncovered that plants from these formations exhibit unique cellular changes, such as fractured and expanded cell pit walls, which are not replicable by human actions like trampling. Levengood identified an extraordinary degree of nodal expansion in cereal crops, beyond what is naturally occurring or could be fabricated by hoaxers with ropes and boards. This expansion, more pronounced at the center of the circles and tapering off towards the edges, indicates a distinctive pattern that sets genuine crop circles apart from those man-made. Furthermore, Levengood’s investigations revealed the presence of magnetic materials in plants and soil from authentic crop circles, materials akin to those found in a select few meteorites, suggesting the influence of extraterrestrial elements or high-energy events.
Levengood’s findings contribute significantly to the field, showcasing measurable changes in crop circle plants that suggest the involvement of complex energy processes beyond simple human hoaxing. His experiments, aiming to replicate the changes observed in crop circle plants using microwave radiation, resulted in similar nodal alterations but failed to recreate the genetic changes, hinting at an unknown type of microwave radiation. Levengood’s dedication to meticulous research is evident from his substantial peer-reviewed publications. His work sheds light on the abnormalities and accelerated germination processes in seeds from crop circles, further challenging the notion of these phenomena being purely man-made and calling for a more profound investigation into their origins and nature.
In parallel efforts to understand crop circles, the Center for Crop Circle Studies (C.C.C.S.) embarked on a project to measure radiation levels within formations deemed genuine. This initiative led to the discovery of rare radioactive isotopes in several crop circles, findings that were initially released by a U.S. Government lab but later retracted due to claims of internal contamination. Such retractions have not deterred individual efforts, including my own, to detect unusual radiation levels within crop circles using Geiger counters, though these personal investigations have yet to yield extraordinary results.
While there have been several crop circle making groups that have spoken out about their creations, crop circles have been seen all over the world. This includes England, Germany, the United States, Sweden, among other countries.
